Topic Dust Hazard Assessments – A Practical Approach

Our speaker, Greg Creswell, will discuss conducting good quality dust hazard assessments in manufacturing workplaces.  A Dust Hazard Assessment (DHA) is a methodical practical method to discover potential risks involved in manufacturing or processing of materials.  Any process or industry where dust is produced is becoming increasingly visible in the public’s eye. Insurance companies are becoming more aware due to increased losses from dust related fires and subsequent explosions.  Local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) are enforcing NFPA codes and standards during their industrial inspections. Regulatory agencies in conjunction with NFPA require a DHA to be completed by a competent person. A DHA examines each part and component of a process where combustible dust may be produced and/or confined in equipment. Greg Creswell will discuss how to comply with regulations related to combustible dust while ensuring a safe work environment.

Gregory (Greg) F. Creswell, CSP, CESCP brings over 30 years of industrial experience with 20+ years implementing and improving Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs, processes and systems.  He previously worked for a leading titanium manufacturing company for over 30 years.  Beginning on the manufacturing shop floor, operating and maintaining a melting furnace while continuing his education lead him to become a Regional Safety Manager with multiple site / multiple state responsibilities.  Greg participated in developing, implementing and managing OSHA VPP Star recognition for a titanium manufacturing and melting facility.  Greg is a principle member of NFPA 484, Combustible Metals and Metals Dust Technical Committee and a principle member of the NFPA Combustible Dust Correlating Committee (TCC).
