SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

Session 1 – Use of Video Coaching to Improve Safety and Reduce Injuries

Learn about the use of video monitoring, coaching and feedback to improve safety performance in the workplace.  Technology enables the Safety Professional to be in multiple places at once, to understand at-risk work activities and provide timely feedback with short coaching videos for your workforce.

Mr. Adam Aronson, CEO of Arrowsight, will share how Arrowsight was conceived 20+ years ago to improve safety in multiple industries by providing 3rd Party Remote Video Coaching Services using strategically placed video cameras in work areas and providing timely performance feedback via short coaching videos, much in the same way that professional sports teams use game film to coach athletes and prepare for upcoming games. In the construction industry, multiple Arrowsight clients have achieved 50%+ reductions in overall claims and 70%+ reductions in catastrophic claims.  In the case of Arrowsight’s first client (~$500M heavy civil contractor from NY), they have been able to reduce their already exceptional EMR of 0.65 down to 0.36 because of significantly lowering their claims over a 3+ year period utilizing Arrowsight.

Session 2 – Use of Remote Monitoring in Confined Space Permit Entry

Learn about how the incorporation of technology has changed Industrial Safety and how the use of technology can reduce injuries, fatalities and provide a more connected workplace.

Learn about technology used for Confined Space monitoring and permit compliance that provides real-time integrated technology solutions to maximize worker safety both inside and outside of confined spaces.  Total Safety will share how their Centralized Confined Space Monitoring (CCSM) solution helps to track atmosphere changes, employee activities, confined space entry access and more from a central control room.  Their CCSM Light is a portable connected solution that allows the permitted space owners a Single Point Monitor device in each CS via an intrinsically safe iPAD.

Session 3 – How Smart Apparel can elevate Ergonomics Programs

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are the leading cause of non-fatal occupational injury, costing US employers around $80 billion in direct costs each year. A primary challenge that safety & ergonomic professionals face is proactively conducting job demands analysis & injury risk assessments at scale to quantify risk and prioritize interventions. Today, ergonomic risk assessments and physical demands analyses are often a manual, time-consuming, and subjective task that is challenging to scale across an enterprise.

Compliance with emerging standards such as ISO 450001 & OHSAS18001 are increasingly driving employers to take a proactive stance on identifying hazards throughout their operations, including ergonomic risks.

In recent years, it has become possible to capture data from the human body to digitize physical demands analysis and injury risk assessments. An emerging class of wearable technology is “smart apparel,” a term encompassing clothing that can sense, communicate, and respond while conforming to the movement of the human body.  In this talk, the presenters will discuss how smart apparel-based sensing can enable semi-automated physical demands analyses and risk assessments at scale across your organization.

Unlike wrist or belt worn devices, smart apparel can capture data from multiple locations across the body, enabling precise measurement of posture and repetition over an entire shift without the need for a human observer to be present. This minimizes the Hawthorne Effect, or perception of “being watched”. Furthermore, this makes smart apparel especially well-suited for assessment of dynamic jobs, meaning high variability in tasks and location.
