Position Summary

Hunter Roberts Construction Group is seeking an Area Safety Manager to support multiple construction projects throughout the Philadelphia region. This role provides field-focused leadership, technical safety guidance, coaching, and compliance support to project teams and trade partners. The Area Safety Manager will help advance Hunter Roberts’ safety program by identifying risk, supporting development and implementation of site-specific plans, conducting inspections and audits, leading incident reviews, tracking corrective actions, and promoting a proactive safety culture across assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership and Culture

  • Champion Hunter Roberts’ commitment to an incident Injury free Culture and provide visible safety leadership across assigned projects.
  • Build trust and credibility with project executives, project managers, superintendents, field staff, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory representatives.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce injury risk, strengthen hazard recognition, and improve field engagement.
  • Participate in safety committees, project leadership meetings, pre task planning activities, and provide safety guidance at the project level. Providing feedback to project executives as needed.
  • Participate in professional safety organizations as requested.

Project Safety Management

  • Support multiple active projects throughout the Philadelphia region through routine jobsite visits, audits, inspections, and coaching.
  • Work with project team to ensure high risk work is preplanned and controlled in accordance with industry best practices. Reviewing  and advising on Activity Hazard Analyses, Job Hazard Analyses, lift plans, fall protection plans, excavation plans, demolition plans, and other safety-critical work activities.
  • Assist project teams in developing, implementing, and maintaining Site-Specific Safety Plans, logistics plans, pre-task planning processes, and high-risk activity controls.
  • Partner with project teams and subcontractors to identify risk, assign corrective actions, and verify timely closeout.
  • Assist in maintenance of Incident & Injury Free Culture on projects. To include conducting periodic safety standdowns, coaching and mentoring as needed.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor jobsite operations for compliance with OSHA construction standards, applicable federal, state, and local requirements, owner requirements, and Hunter Roberts policies.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections, documentation, project safety files, incident logs, and required reports.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable OSHA, NFPA, local jurisdiction, and industry safety requirements.
  • Act as point of contact for regulatory inspections.

Incident Management and Lessons Learned

  • Lead or participate in incident investigations, near-miss reviews, root-cause analyses, and serious incident reviews.
  • Develop and communicate lessons learned, safety highlights, and corrective action expectations to project teams.
  • Track corrective actions through completion and identify trends that require additional training, planning, or leadership attention.

Training, Technology, and Reporting

  • Deliver or support project safety orientations, toolbox talks, focused training, and safety stand-downs.
  • Use Safety Stratus and other company systems to document inspections, observations, incidents, corrective actions, and safety performance metrics.
  • Provide clear written reports and communicate safety trends, emerging risks, and recommendations to operations and safety leadership.
  • Assist with rollout, training, and adoption of safety technology, reporting tools, and innovative safety solutions.

Qualifications

Experience5 to 8 years of construction safety experience, preferably in commercial building construction or construction management.
Certifications  Construction Health & Safety Technician (BCSP), OSHA 30-Hour Construction, and First Aid / CPR / AED. Additional BCSP certifications are a plus.
EducationCollege degree from an accredited program, preferred in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related discipline.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of construction safety practices, OSHA construction standards, and field risk management.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while supporting multiple jobsites and project teams.
  • Practical understanding of high-risk construction activities including falls, cranes and rigging, excavation and trenching, demolition, electrical work, confined spaces, silica exposure, material handling, and temporary works coordination.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence employees at all levels, from field craft workers to senior project leadership.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to use safety management software for documentation and trending.
  • Sound judgment, strong follow-through, and a collaborative approach to solving safety challenges.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Regular travel to active construction sites throughout the Philadelphia region is required.
  • Must be able to walk jobsites for extended periods, climb ladders and temporary stairs, navigate uneven terrain, and work around changing site conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, talk, hear, and perform repetitive hand movements as needed.
  • Work may involve exposure to environmental noise, dust, heat, cold, wet conditions, and other typical construction site conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, and work boots.
