Treasurer:
Greg Wharton
I am currently the Safety Professional and Education Director for the Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Philadelphia for the past six years. I joined ASSP instantly and began attending meetings religiously to become familiar with Safety Professionals from other organizations. Two years after joining, I became Treasurer for the chapter. This year I will be starting my third term in the position. The position has allowed me to learn from my peers on the board on the best and most efficient ways to utilize our funds.
Our chapter continues to take strides to increase our membership and I look forward to playing a significant role in doing so.
Advisory Committee:
Hoyt Emmons
Hoyt Emmons has over 30 years of EHS professional experiences including being the department head and senior EHS Officer at several companies, ranging from start-up operations to multi-national Fortune 500 corporations. Hoyt has been successful in developing and implementing EHS programs by bringing together and addressing the interdependent needs of key stakeholders including the organization, the workforce, and the core values of sustainable safety.
Hoyt joined the ASSP and the Philadelphia Chapter over 20 years ago, was President 2008-2009, and has served on the Executive Board in various roles since 2005. Hoyt’s ASSP priority is always the service of our members and to promote the recognition of EHS professionals in organizational success. Hoyt has presented training topics at several ASSP and AIHA meetings and has presented three times at the PA Governor’s Safety Conference.
In 2022 Hoyt was honored to be the ASSP Philadelphia Chapter and the Society Region VIII Safety Professional of the Year in recognition of his contributions to occupational safety and health.
Hoyt is an assistant adjunct professor of occupational safety at Temple University (and previously at St. Joseph University). Hoyt also teaches hospital ICRA training (Infectious Control Risk Assessment) to the construction trades, is an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer for Construction and General Industry (OSHA 10 and 30 hour courses), an instructor for the American Red Cross, and reached HAZWOPER classes from 8 hour to the complete 40 hour course.
Hoyt’s education includes a BS in Animal Husbandry from Delaware Valley University, graduate work in anatomy and physiology at the University of Maryland, an MBA in Management from LaSalle University, and a MS in Environmental/Occupational Health from Temple University.
Outside of work, Hoyt enjoys time in nature with his family and friends, and also is a professional sheep shearer, shearing over 2,000 local sheep yearly for local flocks including many pro bono shearing services for non-profit institutions.
John Generose
John Generose is currently a Division Safety Manager with TruGreen Lawn Care. His focus is injury and accident prevention in a highly mobile workforce. He has experience in a wide variety of industries including Chemical/Pharmaceutical, Food and Beverage, Industrial Manufacturing, and consumer services. John has been a member of the Philadelphia Chapter for more than 10 years and currently holds a CSP. He is an active member of his local Fire Department and involved with his daughter's sports.
John’s vision as the Advisory Committee is to support the chapter's efforts in recruitment and retention of current safety professionals and rising college graduates, continuation of providing high quality learning sessions throughout the chapter geography and to continue the chapter Platinum Level performance.
